Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) offers online degree programs that fit busy schedules, with affordable tuition to advance careers in Alabama and across the United States. The university has empowered more than 32,000 graduates since its establishment in 1967.

AUM’s online EdS in counseling is a 30-credit program that can be completed in one year through 10 online courses in 16-week terms. The program does not require GMAT scores for qualifying students and allows them to choose between concentrations in school counseling or clinical mental health counseling, building on their counseling knowledge through trauma-informed assignments.

Core courses include supervision in counseling; advanced studies in counseling; and advanced seminar-counseling. Graduates can pursue Class AA certification in Alabama, prepare for the National Counselor Examination for board certification, reduce supervision hours for LPC, or open new career paths with higher earning potential.

The EdS in counseling with a school counseling concentration helps students master school system counseling to support students’ needs, with course highlights in counseling children and adolescents; school crisis plans; and a survey of special education.

The EdS in counseling with a clinical mental health counseling concentration focuses on mental health perspectives with course highlights in early childhood mental health; grief counseling; and spirituality in counseling.

For admission to the school counseling concentration, students must have a master’s degree in school counseling with a class A teaching certificate and at least a 3.0 GPA, while the clinical mental health counseling concentration requires students to have a master’s degree in a counseling-related field, such as psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy with at least a 3.0 GPA. Application materials include a current resume, three letters of recommendation, a background check, a departmental interview, and an experiential learning form. Up to 12 credits can be transferred in.

Auburn University at Montgomery is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and the counseling programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
