East Central University (ECU) Online Counseling Programs
East Central University has empowered students to understand and transform the world for more than 110 years since its founding in 1909 as one of Oklahoma’s first teacher-training schools. The university offers an online bachelor of arts in human services counseling with concentrations in counseling and rehabilitation, as well as a master of science in clinical mental health counseling.
The online BA in human services counseling is a hands-on 120-credit program that can be completed in two to four years, with eight-week courses, and accepts up to 90 transfer credits, preparing students for entry-level roles in family support, substance abuse, social services, care facilities, and prison systems.
Students study human behavior, case management, employment and placement, intervention techniques, psychology, sociology, and social environments. The program includes 40 general education credits, an optional internship, and 18 credits of core courses. The counseling concentration requires 15 credits, while the rehabilitation concentration comprises 21 credits. Graduates can work as alcohol and drug addiction counselors, social and human service assistants, or case managers.
The CACREP-accredited MS in clinical mental health counseling is a 60-credit program that can be completed entirely online, preparing students for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensure. Students complete courses including human services research; foundations of clinical mental health; counseling ethics; theories of marriage and family counseling; and counseling theories, among others. The program also includes three internship courses totaling at least 600 hours each, with no thesis required.
Admission to the BA in human services counseling requires a 2.25 GPA or higher, or 24 college credits with a 2.0 retention GPA for transfer students. Admission to the MS in clinical mental health counseling requires a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and an interview to assess essential dispositions.
East Central University (ECU) is a public university in Ada, Oklahoma, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The online MS in clinical mental health counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
