School Logo

Eastern Oregon University is a cultural hub for rural Oregon that connects students to a wider world through nationally recognized online programs. The university offers a fully online master of science program in clinical mental health counseling designed to prepare students for counseling licensure in Oregon and most other states.

The online MS in clinical mental health counseling is a two-year, 90‑credit program delivered through 20 online courses plus three terms of supervised practicum, internship, and advanced internship at local counseling sites.

Students take cutting-edge courses such as introduction to counseling and ethical practice; assessment and evaluation techniques; social and cultural diversity in counseling; counseling theories; developmental theory; diagnostic systems and psychopathology; career development and counseling; substance use disorders and behavioral addictions; crisis and trauma counseling; group counseling theories and models; and professional issues and advanced ethics in clinical mental health counseling. The program includes 700 total clinical hours across a 100‑hour practicum and two 300‑hour internships.

Following a blend of synchronous and asynchronous online learning, the program has no on-campus requirements, giving students access to the same expert faculty and content as on-campus learners in a flexible digital format. While the program is designed to meet educational and clinical experience requirements for licensure in Oregon and most states, it is not currently accredited by CACREP.

Admission to the program requires a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university, a preferred cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0, official transcripts from all prior colleges, two essays responding to program prompts, and three letters of recommendation. GRE scores and prerequisite coursework are not required for admission, and applicants may transfer up to 13.5 quarter credits of graduate-level coursework from other accredited institutions.

Eastern Oregon University is a public university in La Grande, Oregon. It holds regional accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).
