The master of arts in biblical counseling (MABC) is a 36-credit graduate program that trains students to provide biblical counseling in churches, ministries, and other Christian settings. Important courses include introduction to the Old Testament; introduction to counseling theories; foundations in counseling; introduction to the New Testament; introduction to biblical interpretation; helping skills; marriage and family counseling; crisis counseling; and a counseling practicum. The program includes supervised practical experience and can be completed in as little as 16 to 24 months.
The graduate certificate in biblical counseling is a three-course, nine-credit program for students who want focused graduate-level training in biblical counseling. It includes courses such as foundations in counseling; marriage and family counseling; and crisis counseling. All three certificate courses transfer directly into the master of arts in biblical counseling, giving students a simple path to continue their studies later.
Admission requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with a minimum 2.0 GPA for graduate programs. The certificate and master’s programs are both open to students seeking biblical counseling training, and the certificate is especially useful for those who want a shorter entry point into graduate study. Luther Rice also notes that its master of arts degrees can serve as a pathway toward doctoral study later.
Luther Rice College and Seminary is a private Baptist college and seminary in Lithonia, Georgia. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and also holds accreditation through the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) and the Association of Biblical Higher Education (ABHE).
