Manna University Online Christian & Pastoral Counseling Programs

Manna University offers two online Christian counseling programs: the graduate certificate in Christian counseling and the master of arts in pastoral counseling. Both programs prepare students to address mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual needs in church, mission, organizational, academic, and clinical settings using solid biblical training.

Both programs are offered on campus or entirely online, use low tuition rates, and are taught by faculty with years of ministry experience. The certificate requires 24 credits and can be completed in two years, while the master’s requires 36 credits and can be completed in three years. Neither program provides clinical licensure or counseling certifications, but both lay a foundation for further graduate study and for ministry-focused counseling roles. Courses emphasize integrating psychology and theology, developing empathetic counseling skills, and applying knowledge in real-world church and community settings.

The graduate certificate in Christian counseling is designed for non-clinical biblical counseling in a church context. Important courses include counseling theory and practice; counseling ethics; counseling techniques and treatment strategies; case analysis for organizational & church leadership; and marriage and family counseling. The program’s outcomes focus on integrating psychological theories with biblical teachings, building skills for empathetic and effective counseling, and implementing knowledge in church or community environments.

The master of arts in pastoral counseling integrates psychological understanding with theological insights and emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit in counseling. Important courses include issues for pastoral counseling; counseling cross-culturally; sexuality and addictions counseling; and gerontology and grief counseling. The program prepares students for ministerial contexts such as church planting, church development, and chaplaincy and seeks to deepen students’ relationship with Jesus Christ while building emotional and social intelligence.

Admission to Manna University graduate programs requires completing an application with a non-refundable fee, an essay of 300 to 600 words describing the applicant’s conversion experience, a pastoral reference from the pastor of the church the applicant regularly attends, and a personal reference from someone who has known the applicant for two years or more and is not related. Applicants must submit official transcripts showing an earned undergraduate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent academic achievement approved by Manna University’s Academic Office. A minimum 2.75 GPA is preferred for graduate applicants, and students using military education benefits must submit high school and all college transcripts.

Manna University is located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on the broadcast location of Manna Church. The university is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE) Commission on Accreditation to grant certificates and degrees at the certificate, associate, baccalaureate, graduate certificate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
