Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) offers an online 62 to 68-credit master of arts in clinical psychology program with two licensure tracks: licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) and licensed professional counselor (LPC). The program is designed to be completed in as few as 27 months.

The online MA in clinical psychology program with LMFT emphasis prepares students to help families and couples with marriage dynamics, parent-child conflicts, depression, substance abuse, and trauma. The program meets the academic requirements for LMFT licensure, as well as the state fieldwork hours, such as 225 direct client hours in California.

The online MA in clinical psychology program with LPC emphasis trains students to address mental health issues for individuals, families, groups, and organizations, including emotional disorders and addiction. The program meets the California Board of Behavioral Science’s academic standards for LPC licensure, requiring 280 direct client hours in California.

Students in this online clinical psychology program complete interactive online coursework led by Pepperdine faculty, four sessions of field placement at local sites, foundation courses like psychopathology and behavioral principles and theories of learning, and key courses such as multicultural counseling; substance abuse treatment; sexuality and intimacy; assessment of individuals, couples, and families; diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders; theory of counseling and psychotherapy; trauma in diverse populations; and techniques of counseling and psychotherapy. All students outside of California will be required to complete 700 total placement hours.

Admission to the program requires a completed application form, a bachelor’s degree from any educational background from a regionally accredited institution, official transcripts from all universities attended, letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose. No GRE is required. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with multiple start dates throughout the year, and application fee waivers are available for priority deadlines.

Pepperdine University is a private research university affiliated with the Churches of Christ, with its main campus located in Los Angeles County, California. The University is regionally accredited by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC).
