It equips students to treat issues like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, grief, and trauma through courses including counseling theories; crisis & trauma: assessment & treatment; treatment planning & integrative models of care; practicum in clinical mental health counseling; and internship in clinical mental health counseling.

The online MA in school counseling is a 60- to 63-credit program that can be completed in 2.5 years. It trains for PK-12 roles that support academic, career, and social-emotional growth through courses such as counseling children & adolescents; comprehensive school counseling programs; leadership & advocacy; practicum in school counseling; and internship in school counseling.

Admission to both programs requires a completed online application with a non-refundable fee, a baccalaureate degree, official transcripts, two professional letters of recommendation, a state-specific acknowledgment form, responses to personal statement prompts, an online readiness assessment, and a video conference interview. GRE or GMAT scores are not required for admission. Full admission requires an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.75. Moreover, students must be available for two week-long SHU residencies.
