Salve Regina University Online Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling
Salve Regina University is a private Catholic university that offers an online master of arts in clinical counseling with a specialization in clinical rehabilitation counseling.
The program is designed around a holistic, justice-centered, and systemic approach to counseling. It combines remote coursework with clinical practice and prepares students to work with people across the lifespan who face mental health concerns, disabilities, and related life challenges. The program also reflects the university’s mercy-inspired mission and commitment to service and advocacy.
The clinical counseling program is a 60-credit degree that can be completed in about three years. It includes advanced training in counseling theory, assessment, diagnosis, trauma-informed counseling, and rehabilitation counseling. Important courses include professional orientation and ethics; human growth and development; diagnosis and treatment planning; foundations of rehabilitation counseling; and medical and psychosocial aspects of chronic illness and disability.
The clinical rehabilitation counseling specialization prepares students for work with people who have mental health issues and co-occurring disabilities. It also supports eligibility for licensure as mental health counselors in Rhode Island and other states, and graduates may apply for Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) status with appropriate supervision. Students complete clinical fieldwork through a practicum and two internships.
Admission includes a completed online application, official transcripts, a personal statement, a current resume, two professional letters of recommendation, and possibly an interview. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and there is no fee to apply.
