Seton Hall University is a private Catholic research university serving over 10,000 students through more than 90 undergraduate and 130 graduate programs. Through the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media, the university offers an online EdS in professional counseling and an online MA in school counseling.

Both programs deliver flexible online coursework with in-person residencies and supervised fieldwork to build clinical skills. They emphasize equity, inclusion, and real-world practice for diverse K-12 and counseling settings. Students gain training in counseling theory, crisis response, and advocacy from experienced faculty.

The EdS in professional counseling program consists of an additional 12 credits of advanced-level practice and knowledge courses beyond the 48-credit MA in counseling program completed at Seton Hall. The program helps fulfill the 60-credit requirement for licensure as a Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey and aligns with standards in most states. It provides advanced training through three semesters of internship (300 hours each, including 120 direct hours) and courses such as etiology-treatment addictions; psychopathology; couple and family dynamics; and internship in professional counseling, as well as two weekend residencies.

The online MA in school counseling is a 48-credit, CAEP-accredited program that prepares students for K-12 school counselor certification. It covers counseling skills, human development, and school-based practice through courses including counseling theory; group counseling; counseling skills; practicum counseling; and internship-counseling, with two weekend residencies.

Admission to the EdS requires completion of Seton Hall’s 48-credit MA in counseling or school counseling, an online application, a personal statement, an updated resume or CV, official transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Admission to the MA in school counseling requires an online application, official transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a personal statement on experience and goals, a current resume or CV, and an interview with the admissions committee.

Seton Hall University is located in South Orange, New Jersey, on a 58-acre campus 14 miles from New York City, and is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The MA in school counseling is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), while the EdS program aligns with LPC licensure standards.
