Nova Southeastern University Online Master’s in Counseling
Nova Southeastern University offers an online master of science program in counseling with concentrations in clinical mental health counseling and school counseling.
Both concentrations are delivered in an online format with two required residential institutes. These institutes provide in-person training, faculty feedback, and counseling practice. The program also emphasizes multicultural competence, ethical practice, and the ability to work with diverse groups, families, and individuals.
The MS in counseling, clinical mental health counseling concentration is a 60-credit program. It includes courses such as counseling theories and practice; research and evaluation for counselors; introduction to counseling techniques; human growth and development; diagnosis and treatment of adult psychopathology; diagnosis and treatment of child and adolescent psychopathology; group theory and practice; counseling practicum; and counseling internship. Students must also pass the counselor preparation comprehensive exam to graduate.
The MS in counseling, school counseling concentration, is a Florida state-approved program that meets the educational requirements for certification in Florida. It is offered online with two residential institutes and includes courses such as counseling theories for school counselors; research and evaluation for counselors; career development and college planning; principles of school counseling; appraisal and evaluation in school counseling; school counseling practicum; and school counseling internship. This concentration currently accepts applicants only from Florida who are seeking Florida certification.
Admission requires a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution, a completed online application, a statement of professional goals, a curriculum vitae or resume, two recommendations, official transcripts, English proficiency scores for international applicants, and an interview. A GPA of 2.5 or higher in the last 60 semester hours is required, or a master’s degree with a 3.0 GPA or better, or a GRE score of 300 or higher on the combined verbal and quantitative sections. Applicants for the school counseling concentration must also submit the teaching certificate requirement verification form, and both concentrations require the attestation statement.

The school counseling concentration is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and has earned national recognition through the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
