Southern California Seminary Online MA in Christian Counseling
Southern California Seminary offers the master of arts in Christian counseling as a 100 percent online option and also on campus. The program is designed for students who want counseling training grounded in a biblical framework and a Christian worldview.
Across the program, students study biblical foundations, counseling principles, and faith integration. The curriculum includes Bible and theology work, research and writing, and counseling training that connects scripture with practical ministry. The program also includes a practicum, which gives students guided experience in Christian counseling.
The MA in Christian counseling is intended for people who want to counsel within the church or in parachurch settings. It is also useful for students interested in further graduate study. Core courses include hermeneutics; systematic theology; theological foundations of counseling; fundamentals of Christian counseling; conflict resolution; crisis counseling; marriage and family counseling; and Christian counseling practicum.
For this program, students complete 48 units of graduate-level coursework. They also need at least 39 units at Southern California Seminary, a minimum GPA of 2.0, and approval from the faculty based on moral integrity. The program allows up to nine transfer units from another institution.
Admission to the seminary requires an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an approved college or university, usually with at least 60 units of liberal arts courses. Applicants must also meet the required GPA standard for graduate study and must have left their last institution in good standing.
Southern California Seminary is located in El Cajon, California. It is an accredited private institution of theological higher education, and its Graduate School of Bible and Theology is accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS).
