Adler Graduate School provides counseling education rooted in Adlerian Psychology through its master of arts degrees and advanced certificates. The graduate certificate in co-occurring disorders and addiction counseling is a 26- to 32-credit post-baccalaureate program teaching progressive methods for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders to support recovery. It includes 880 hours of field experience through practicum and internship, helping graduates pursue Minnesota’s Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) license. Key courses include foundations of addictions and co-occurring disorders; case management for co-occurring disorders; and best practices in co-occurring disorders.
The MA in counseling with a concentration in clinical mental health counseling program comprises 60 credits to train students for holistic wellness work across diverse groups using prevention, intervention, and clinical skills. Requiring 700 hours of field experience with practicum and internships, it meets Minnesota LPCC educational needs and includes courses such as clinical applications of Adlerian theory; clinical assessment; clinical treatment planning in counseling & psychotherapy; and trauma and crisis intervention.
The MA in counseling with a concentration in co-occurring disorders and addiction counseling program covers 64 to 73 credits to handle addiction with mental health conditions through evidence-based practices. With 880 hours of field experience in the 12 core counseling functions, it qualifies graduates for Minnesota LADC and LPCC credentials, featuring courses like case management for co-occurring disorders; best practices in co-occurring disorders; and an integrative seminar – COD.
The MA in counseling with a concentration in marriage, couple, and family counseling is a 60-credit program providing systems-based training for relational issues in children, couples, adults, and families. It demands 700 hours of field experience, including 300 direct client hours (150 relational), preparing for Minnesota LMFT licensure, and covers theories of family therapy; couples counseling; family therapy; and counseling children and adolescents.
The post-master’s certificate in counseling program comprises 21 to 27 credits and offers concentration options in clinical mental health counseling and marriage, couples, and family counseling. Available online, in-person, or hybrid with 700 field hours through practicum and internship, this program offers add-on post-master’s training for relational licensure needs. Clinical mental health courses include clinical assessment; clinical treatment planning in counseling & psychotherapy; and advanced approaches to counseling & psychotherapy skills. Courses in the marriage, couples, and family counseling concentration include theories of family therapy; couples counseling; family therapy; and counseling children and adolescents.
Full admission to bachelor’s-entry programs requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, a 3.0 GPA or higher, and a completed application with an interview. Post-master’s certificates require a master’s degree in counseling or a related field from an accredited institution.
