Bradley University Online Master’s in Counseling Programs

Bradley University offers online master of arts in counseling programs with tracks in clinical mental health counseling and professional school counseling. Each 60-credit program takes about 40 months to complete and prepares students for the National Counselor Exam and licensure.

Both tracks deliver all coursework online with two one-week virtual residencies, one in the first term and one in the eighth term. They include a practicum and two internships completed locally with student-chosen site supervisors approved by the university. Students can keep working while studying. Core courses cover counseling theories and techniques, human growth and development, research methods, counseling diverse populations, group counseling, and neurocounseling that links brain science to behavior.

The clinical mental health counseling track trains students to treat emotional, psychological, addiction, trauma, and family issues in settings like clinics, hospitals, nonprofits, or private practice. Unique courses include brain-based counseling interventions and clinical mental health counseling.

The professional school counseling track readies students to support K-12 academic success, social growth, and career planning in public, private, or higher education settings. Key courses are professional school counseling in secondary schools; professional school counseling in K-8; and education law, advocacy, and leadership.

Admission requires a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college with a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 undergraduate hours, or a 3.0 GPA across at least 12 prior graduate credits. Applicants submit an online application with a fee, official transcripts, a statement of interest, and three letters of recommendation. A virtual interview follows for qualified candidates.

Bradley University is a private university founded in 1897 and located in Peoria, Illinois. It holds regional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. Both counseling programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
