Charleston Southern University Online MS in Clinical Counseling
Charleston Southern University offers an online master of science in clinical counseling, a 60-credit fully online program that prepares students to become Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) through the National Counselor Examination (NCE) and clinical experience.
The program combines synchronous evening live classes with asynchronous coursework and two three-day in-person residencies in Charleston for skills training, orientation, and cohort building, fitting full-time 33-month schedules or part-time 48-month schedules starting each fall with 30 seats per cohort. It integrates faith and counseling in a Christian environment, focusing on client-centered care, psychopathology, diagnosis, human growth, counseling theories, ethics, research, group therapy, crisis intervention, career development, and 700 total hours of practicum and internship at approved community sites with coordinator placement help.
Key courses include psychopathology and diagnosis; counseling and personality theories; ethical issues in counseling; techniques of counseling; group dynamics and therapy; a practicum; and two internships, with nine elective hours from options like alcohol and substance abuse or child and adolescent counseling.
Admission uses a rolling process for fall starts and requires a graduate application, official transcripts from all institutions, a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (lower GPAs considered with life experience), two online recommendations, a goals statement, and an interview.
Charleston Southern University is a private Christian university affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention, located in North Charleston, South Carolina.
