Davenport University Online MA Mental Health Counseling
Davenport University offers a master of arts (MA) program in mental health counseling that prepares students to become professional mental health counselors through a flexible online format. The program is designed for working adults and combines academic study, practical training, and support for licensure preparation.
The 60-credit program is available 100 percent online with two start dates, one in the fall and one in the winter. Students complete 15-week courses, a 100-hour practicum, and a 600-hour internship under the supervision of a qualified mental health provider. The curriculum focuses on counseling theory, ethics, cultural responsiveness, assessment, trauma, psychopathology, family and marital counseling, addictions, research, and clinical care. Davenport also offers one-on-one mentorship, small classes, and a learning model that builds both foundational knowledge and clinical skill.
This program gives students the specialized training needed to work with clients of all ages and backgrounds in individual, group, and family settings. It prepares graduates to support people facing challenges such as grief, addiction, self-esteem issues, marital difficulties, and emotional disorders. Key courses include counseling theory and technique; psychopathology; testing and assessment in counseling; group counseling; family & marital counseling; clinical care and community collaboration; a clinical mental health practicum; and two clinical mental health internships.

They must also provide official transcripts, a supplemental short form, a current resume or CV, and may be asked to complete an interview before a final decision is made.
