Huntington University Online MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Huntington University offers a master of arts in clinical mental health counseling program that is designed for students who want Christ-centered counselor training. The program is available in a predominantly online format with an on-campus intensive experience, and it prepares students for counseling work in diverse settings.

The program combines online coursework, synchronous class sessions, and supervised clinical training. Students complete practicum and internship hours, participate in a three-day intensive on the Huntington campus, and build skills in counseling theory, ethics, assessment, group work, and crisis and trauma counseling. The program also emphasizes spiritual formation, professional identity, and integration of counseling and Christianity.

The master of arts in clinical mental health counseling is a 60-credit program that can be completed online. It includes courses such as human growth and development; counseling theories; clinical psychopathology and diagnosis; integration of counseling and Christianity; foundations of addiction counseling; and foundations and contextual dimensions of mental health counseling. Students also complete a supervised practicum and two supervised internships, along with the required intensive experience.

This program is built to prepare students for licensure-related counseling work in Indiana and to help them understand licensure rules in their own state. It requires students to maintain membership in at least one professional organization and to take part in a conference, seminar, or workshop while enrolled. The program also includes 700 hours of supervised clinical experience, with half of those hours in direct client contact.

Admission requirements include a completed graduate application, two recommendation letters, a professional resume, official transcripts, a desired undergraduate GPA of 3.0, and prerequisite coursework in biblical studies and psychology. Applicants may be considered conditionally if prerequisites are not yet complete, but those courses must be finished within the first year of graduate study. Students beginning in the fall must attend the three-day intensive on campus in Huntington, Indiana, and students beginning in the spring must attend the intensive the following fall.
