Keiser University Online MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Keiser University offers one online counseling program: the master of science program in clinical mental health counseling. The program is designed for students who want preparation for counseling careers, licensure, and supervised field experience.
The program combines online coursework with in-person residency and fieldwork. Students complete coursework in counseling theory, ethics, assessment, diagnosis, advocacy, and treatment planning, as well as practicum and internship experiences.
The master of science in clinical mental health counseling is a 60-credit program with 20 courses. It prepares students for counseling roles in private practice, hospitals, community and government agencies, and schools. Important courses include foundations of counseling; counseling across the lifespan; counseling theories and practice; ethical and legal issues in counseling; and psychopathology and diagnosis.
Students also complete specialization coursework in counseling in community settings; couples and family counseling; foundations of addiction and addictive behavior; and counseling and sexuality. The program includes a pre-practicum in counseling, a practicum in counseling, an internship in counseling I, and an internship in counseling II. Students must attend three on-campus residencies before the practicum and internship courses.
Admission is competitive and based on faculty review of application materials. Applicants must submit a graduate school application, pay the application fee, provide transcripts showing a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 CGPA, and submit a resume or curriculum vitae. Preference is given to applicants with relevant experience or coursework in mental health or counseling.
