Lynn University Online Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Lynn University offers one online counseling program: the master of science in clinical mental health counseling. This program is designed for students who want graduate training for licensure and professional counseling practice.
The program is offered on campus or online, and it uses a flexible structure with year-round study. It focuses on counseling skills, legal and ethical practice, human development, assessment, research, and field experience. The MS in clinical mental health counseling is a 61-credit program that can be completed in two or more years. Important courses include graduate orientation seminar; professional counseling identity and skills; case conceptualization and personality theories; diagnostic processes; legal and ethical practices; group counseling; assessment and testing procedures; and internship in counseling. Students complete a practicum and three full semesters of clinical experience in the final year.
The program also offers a crisis, resilience, and first responder trauma concentration. This concentration focuses on crisis support, trauma-informed care, and counseling first responders. It includes courses such as trauma-informed case conceptualization; human sexuality; and first responder: culturally responsive care, and it gives students clinical experience in trauma-focused settings.
Admission is competitive and requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, a completed application, transcripts, a personal statement, a current resume, a letter of recommendation, and an interview with the admissions committee. Students are evaluated on academic performance, career goals, counseling potential, and cultural sensitivity. The program also requires students to meet practicum and exit exam standards before graduation.
Lynn University is located in Boca Raton, Florida, and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The MS in clinical mental health counseling is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and prepares students for licensure in Florida and other states, although licensure requirements vary by location.
