SCSU Online Addiction & Trauma Graduate Certificate
Through the Center for Online and Distance Education, South Carolina State University offers flexible online programs that make education accessible to working professionals. For students interested in counseling, South Carolina State University offers the online graduate certificate in addiction and trauma.
The graduate certificate in addiction and trauma is delivered entirely online and is designed for professionals who want to build skills in addiction counseling and trauma care. Courses are offered in accelerated eight-week terms instead of the traditional semester schedule, allowing students to complete the 18-credit certificate in as little as one year. The online format provides flexibility for working professionals while offering the same tuition rate for both in-state and out-of-state students.
The certificate focuses on evidence-based training for substance abuse, addiction, and trauma and prepares students to provide high-quality counseling services for individuals affected by substance use, addiction, and trauma. Important courses include introduction to addiction counseling; assessment and treatment of substance use disorders; co-occurring disorders; crisis, trauma, and disaster recovery counseling; theories and models for addictions; and current issues and trends in addictions and trauma counseling.
This program is aimed at students who hold a bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field. It is meant for people who are interested in becoming certified in addiction counseling or advancing their careers in the field.
