Online Master’s in Counseling Programs – South Florida Bible College
Established in 1985, South Florida Bible College and Theological Seminary provides theological education grounded in Christian faith, biblical teaching, spiritual growth, and Christian service. Students interested in online counseling education can choose from two graduate programs offered through the School of Behavioral Sciences. These include the master of arts in mental health counseling and the master of arts in pastoral counseling.
Both programs are available fully online, following a traditional 16-week course schedule, and are built around a Christian and Biblically based approach to counseling. They are designed for students who want flexible study, practical training, and small class settings with personal attention from faculty.
The programs combine counseling theory with practical preparation and are designed for students seeking careers in ministry, churches, community organizations, and counseling settings. The curriculum emphasizes evidence-based practices together with biblical principles, helping graduates develop the knowledge and skills needed to support the emotional, relational, mental, and spiritual needs of individuals and families.
The MA in mental health counseling is a 60-credit program that prepares students to become competent mental health counselors. Students learn to provide counseling services in church, agency, and para-church settings while working with diverse populations. The program consists of 20 courses that may be completed online in about two years. Important courses include counseling in community settings; diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology; Christian counseling theories; psychotherapy and substance abuse; career development in counseling; and psychotherapy with children and adolescents. The curriculum also includes practicum training, two internship experiences, and preparation for the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE).
The MA in pastoral counseling is a 36-credit program that can be completed in about one and a half years. Important courses include human growth and development; social and cultural diversity; counseling in community settings; psychotherapy and substance abuse; marriage and family counseling theories; and pastoral counseling theories. This program is focused on Biblical counseling and ministry-based practice.
Admission for both programs requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, a minimum GPA of 3.0, an application, a nonrefundable fee, official transcripts, a recommendation form, and an interview. Applicants may also include other evidence of leadership potential, and provisional admission may be possible if competency can be shown.
