University of Cincinnati Online BS in Substance Abuse Counseling
The University of Cincinnati offers an online 120-credit bachelor of science program in substance abuse counseling, preparing students for careers helping individuals, families, and communities affected by drug and alcohol addiction.
The program is fully online, takes about four years to complete, and offers spring, summer, and fall start dates. Students may transfer credits, and financial aid is available. The program also offers a non-internship subplan for students who already have enough substance use disorder-related work experience to satisfy supervised experience requirements for licensure.
The curriculum combines general education courses with substance abuse counseling coursework. Important courses include introduction to substance abuse counseling; basic pharmacology; assessment and diagnosis in substance abuse counseling; and ethics in substance abuse counseling.
Admission for first-year students requires official high school transcripts with a GPA of at least 2.7. Transfer students must submit official high school transcripts with a GPA of at least 2.7 if they have completed fewer than 24 semester credits or 36 quarter credits of higher education. Transfer students who have completed the required college credit must submit official transcripts from all higher education institutions with a minimum combined cumulative GPA of 2.0.
