University of Olivet Online MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling
The University of Olivet offers an online master of arts program in clinical mental health counseling for students seeking a fully online path to licensure. The program is designed for those who want a flexible graduate counseling option with direct faculty support.
The program is built around fully online coursework delivered in eight-week terms. Students also complete supervised practicum and internship experiences in approved counseling settings in their local communities. The structure includes small cohorts, direct faculty mentorship, and a clear pathway for students balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities.
The curriculum is aligned with licensure preparation and CACREP standards. It focuses on counseling foundations, ethical and legal practice, diversity, assessment, research, and clinical skills. Students also complete two intensive in-person residency periods and gain experience through a practicum and internship.
The 60-credit master of arts in clinical mental health counseling is designed for students who want to become Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs). Courses include professional ethics and orientation to practice; social justice and cultural diversity in counseling; theories of counseling in diverse contexts; counseling techniques and skills in diverse contexts; psychopathology: diagnosis and treatment of abnormal behavior; trauma counseling; clinical counselor relationships; and clinical mental health practicum. The program also includes supervised fieldwork and prepares students for the National Counselor Examination (NCE).
Admission requires a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must also submit a one- to two-page personal essay, two academic or professional letters of recommendation, and a current resume. Students must also meet the university’s admission requirements.
The University of Olivet is a private Christian college located in Olivet, Michigan. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), and the counseling program is designed to align with CACREP standards for clinical mental health counseling.
