Beal University Online Counseling Programs: Addiction & Clinical

Beal University offers 100 percent online programs in counseling through its accelerated degree pathways, including a 121-credit bachelor of science program in addiction counseling and a 66-credit master of science program in clinical mental health counseling. These programs build practical skills for direct client services, ethical practice, and careers helping people overcome addiction, mental health challenges, or related issues.

Both programs feature flexible online schedules, with out-of-class assignments, and focus on compassionate, culturally responsive counseling for diverse groups. They emphasize real-world preparation through core areas such as ethics, intervention techniques, organizational systems, and program evaluation, delivered by experienced faculty, including researchers and practitioners.

The 42-month BS in addiction counseling equips students to assess client needs, plan services, and promote recovery in roles like Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor (CADC) or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC). Key courses include introduction to addiction counseling; ethics and boundaries in addiction counseling; motivational interviewing; diagnosis and treatment planning in addiction services; and group process. Graduates gain skills in crisis resolution, case management, multicultural counseling, and advocacy for individuals, families, and communities.

The MS in clinical mental health counseling prepares students to support individuals, couples, families, and groups in various settings, addressing anxiety, trauma, addiction, and depression. Designed to be completed in as few as 22 months, the program includes six internships for supervised practice, plus key courses like professional counseling orientation and ethical practice; psychopathology, diagnosis, and treatment; counseling and helping relationships; group counseling; and crisis intervention. The modular system lets full-time students finish faster by focusing on fewer classes at once, with remote access to campus resources like career services.

Admission to the BS program follows standard university requirements for undergraduates. The MS requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in counseling or related fields, a 3.0 GPA in the last 60 undergraduate hours, a personal or professional goal statement, a current resume, three academic or professional letters of recommendation, and a virtual interview with the program director and faculty. Background checks are mandatory before clinicals for MS students.
