Ohio Christian University Online MA Pastoral Care and Counseling

Ohio Christian University offers a master of arts in ministry with a pastoral care and counseling concentration.

The program is built for busy adults and is offered entirely online in a flexible five-week format. It uses weekly assignment deadlines and forum discussions, and it serves both undergraduate and graduate students. Ohio Christian University also emphasizes a supportive Christian learning environment and a complete education that develops students professionally, spiritually, and intellectually.

The master of arts in ministry is a 36-credit program with 24 core credits and 12 concentration credits. Core study includes graduate essentials; pastoral caregiver; new testament history and interpretation; old testament history and interpretation; history of Christian thought; theology of John Wesley; mission in the western world; and ministry capstone. The pastoral care and counseling concentration includes methods of pastoral counseling; ethical and legal issues in pastoral counseling; spiritual issues in pastoral counseling; and pastoral intervention in crisis.

The Pastoral Care and Counseling concentration is designed for ministers who are called to a counseling ministry. It is not intended to qualify graduates for licensure as professional counselors. Instead, it focuses on helping students analyze situations, choose proper interventions in crises, and serve more effectively in ministry settings.

Admission requires a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a regionally accredited or ABHE-accredited institution with a minimum overall GPA of 2.5. Students with a GPA from 2.00 to 2.49 may be considered for provisional admission. Applicants must also submit a completed application and official transcripts from the degree-granting institution or any school where prerequisite courses were taken.
