Catawba College Online Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Catawba College offers a fully online master of health science in clinical mental health counseling, a 60-credit program that can be completed in two years, preparing students to take the National Counselor Exam (NCE) and pursue licensure as Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associates (LCMHCA) in North Carolina.

The program delivers 100 percent online coursework with small classes of up to 18 students per cohort starting each fall, plus two required in-person residencies at the Salisbury campus for clinical skills and professional development. It includes 45 credits of didactic training and 15 credits of supervised clinical experiences through practicum and internship with real clients. Students develop ethical, multicultural competencies for assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and diverse therapeutic techniques in line with CACREP standards.

Key courses include introduction to counseling; counseling theories; counseling skills & techniques; ethical, legal, and professional issues in counseling; diagnosis & treatment of mental health disorders, and counseling internship.

Admission requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, a Catawba College graduate application, official transcripts from all colleges attended, two letters of recommendation, and a 500-word essay.
