All programs integrate Christian faith with clinical practice through online or hybrid formats (seven-week blocks, two courses at a time), two to three in-person Colorado residencies, Bible or theology courses, 100-hour practicum plus 600-hour internships at approved sites, and preparation for Colorado licensure, like LPC, LMFT, LAC, or Licensed School Counselor via National Counselor Exam. They emphasize cultural sensitivity, ethical practice, psychopathology, group counseling, crisis or trauma, human growth, career development, research, and whole-person care in settings from schools to agencies.
The dual MA degree in clinical mental health and school counseling combines the two degrees, offering broader career options, and requires separate 600-hour internships in clinical and school settings. Instead of completing the two 60-credit master’s degrees separately for a total of 120 credits, the dual-degree pathway requires just 75 total credits. Key courses include foundations of school counseling; school counseling practice & programs; theories of personality and clinical practice; CMH counseling or school counseling practicum; psychopharmacology; three school counseling residencies; CMH counseling internship or school counseling internship; and introduction to play therapy: history and major theories, among others.
The 60-credit CACREP-accredited MA in clinical mental health counseling program trains culturally sensitive counselors for LPC licensure with 700 clinical hours, including practicum and internships. It integrates the Christian worldview with skills in diagnosis, group therapy, ethics, and trauma. Courses include counseling & helping relationships; theories of personality, psychopathology, and diagnostic practice; two counseling internships, three residencies, Bible/theology, and electives like military veteran clinical counseling.
The 69-credit MA in clinical mental health counseling with a marriage and family therapy emphasis prepares for LPC and LMFT licensure through systemic relational therapy for families or couples. It features 700 clinical hours and aligns with COAMFTE and CACREP standards. Unique courses include marriage/family therapy theory; couples and sex therapy; social & cultural foundations for MFT; research/evaluation in MFT; three residencies; and a Bible/theology core.
The 69-credit MA in clinical mental health counseling with a substance use disorders emphasis targets co-occurring disorders for LPC, LAC, or CAC III licensure with a holistic addiction treatment focus. It includes 700 clinical hours and focuses on psychopharmacology, differential diagnosis, complicating medical issues, trauma-informed treatment, and recovery management. Key courses are substance use disorders; neuroscience and substance use disorders; process addictions, addiction intervention & treatment; three residencies, and bible/theology core.
The CACREP-accredited 60-credit MA in school counseling program for Licensed School Counselor licensure emphasizes the ASCA model for K-12 success with 700 hours of practicum and internship. Courses cover Foundations of school counseling; school counseling practice/programs; school counseling contextual dimensions; three school counseling internships, three residencies, Bible/theology, and electives like exceptional learners: children & adolescents; anxiety and mood disorders; and child & adolescent diagnosis & treatment.
The PhD in counselor education and supervision is a leadership doctorate that emphasizes teaching, supervision, research, and advocacy with an integrated dissertation, two residencies, and 600 internship hours across counseling, teaching, and supervision. Key courses include leadership, ethics, and advocacy in CES; counselor supervision; research methodology and statistics; program evaluation, consultation, and assessment; and three doctoral internships.
Admission to all MA programs requires a completed application, valid state-issued driver’s license, ID, passport, a current resume or CV, official transcripts showing a conferred bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution with minimum 2.5 GPA on 4.0 scale (2.0-2.49 admits conditionally requiring 3.0 first-semester GPA), official transcripts of any prior graduate counseling credits, criminal background check, and candidacy writing sample per essay prompts. Applicants with an undergraduate GPA between 2.0 and 2.49 will be admitted on a conditional basis.
