Crown College Online Master’s in Counseling

Crown College offers a fully online master of arts in counseling degree that prepares students to become licensed professional counselors with clinical excellence and spiritual sensitivity. Rooted in a Christian and Missionary Alliance foundation, the program equips graduates to serve in diverse mental health settings while thoughtfully integrating faith where appropriate.

The 60-credit program blends evidence-based counseling methods with a holistic approach that addresses mind, body, relationships, and spirit. Students complete coursework in core areas like counseling theories and practices, human growth and lifespan development, legal and ethical issues, assessment and testing, multicultural counseling, group process, addictions, psychopathology, diagnosis, and treatment planning.

Delivery includes online classes with two in-person residencies each May, plus a 100-hour practicum and 600 hours of internship at approved local counseling sites. Faculty who are licensed practitioners guide students to develop professional identity, ethical decision-making, leadership, and advocacy skills for multicultural and global clients.

This licensure-ready program meets the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy requirements for Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) status and is recognized in many other states. Students gain skills to support clients through trauma, grief, addiction, and life transitions with compassion and competence. Key courses include foundations of clinical mental health counseling and integration of the Christian worldview; counseling skills, methods, and techniques in helping relationships; marriage and family therapy; counseling research and evaluation; and addictions and substance abuse.

Admission to the master of arts in counseling requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum grade point average of 3.0, though lower GPAs receive a case by case review. Applicants submit a three to four-page paper on a challenging life experience, understanding of counseling, time management strategies, and working with differing worldviews, plus two references from pastoral, professional, academic, or personal sources, and complete a virtual group interview with faculty. Crown College accepts transfer credits from qualified schools after transcript evaluation.
