D’Youville University Online MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling
D’Youville University offers an online and hybrid master of science program in clinical mental health counseling that is designed to prepare students for licensure and careers in mental health counseling. The program is built for learners who want flexible study options and practical training for work in a wide range of clinical settings.
The program combines online and in-person learning in either a fully distance or hybrid format. Students can complete the 60-credit program in about two years and may transfer up to nine credits. The curriculum includes foundational and advanced study in counseling theory, psychopathology, ethics, assessment, diversity, crisis and trauma counseling, group counseling, family counseling, supervision, and capstone work. The program also includes supervised clinical training and ongoing licensure preparation for New York State.
This program helps students build the knowledge and skills needed to support individuals and communities through mental health care. It prepares graduates for settings such as residential treatment programs, outpatient mental health agencies, psychiatric hospitals, PROS programs, ACT teams, and private practice. Key courses include foundations of counseling and consultation; counseling theories and practice; psychopathology; crisis, trauma, and loss counseling; and two internships.
Applicants must submit a completed application, hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, and have a minimum graduate grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. The university also asks applicants to answer multiple-choice questions that show readiness for graduate study. A related undergraduate background is preferred, but students from different academic fields may still be considered.
D’Youville University is a private university in Buffalo, New York, and is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). Founded in 1908, the university emphasizes access, equity, leadership, and service, and its clinical mental health counseling program is designed to meet the 60-credit educational requirements for licensure in New York State.
