Evangel University Online Master’s in Counseling Programs
Evangel University offers two online counseling programs: a master of science (MS) in clinical mental health counseling and a master of science (MS) in school counseling. Both programs are designed to prepare students for counseling careers with a Christian perspective, practical training, and flexible online study.
The two programs share several important features. Each one includes synchronous classes, asynchronous instruction, required residencies, and hands-on preparation through practicum and internship experiences. Both programs are 60-credit degrees that can be completed in nine semesters. They also prepare students for licensing or certification exams before graduation and emphasize Christian faith integration, ethical practice, and professional counseling skills.
The MS in clinical mental health counseling is an online program that prepares students for work in community mental health agencies, private practice, medical facilities, substance abuse programs, correctional facilities, and other settings. It focuses on counseling theory, assessment, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based treatment. Important courses include counseling theories; psychodiagnosis; mental health counseling practicum; and clinical interventions and evidence-based treatments.
The MS in school counseling is an online program that prepares students to design and deliver comprehensive school counseling services for public and private school communities. It focuses on student success, school-based interventions, and professional counseling practice. Important courses include school counseling foundations; school counseling curriculum and classroom interventions; school counseling practicum; and two school counseling internships.
The programs include common courses such as professional orientation and ethics; counseling skills; human growth and development; social and cultural diversity; research methods; career counseling; and group counseling.
Applicants must hold a completed bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. A minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required, or a GRE combined score of 290 or higher. Students must also have at least six credits of psychology or counseling coursework. Additional application materials include three references, a resume, an APA writing sample, a statement of purpose, an interview, and a background check.
