Florida State University (FSU) Online MS in School Counseling
Florida State University offers an online school counseling major through the MS and EdS pathways. The program prepares students to serve K-12 learners and build school counseling skills for academic, career, and social-emotional support.
The program focuses on data-driven counseling, comprehensive school counseling programs, and work with families and community partners. Students learn how to use individual, group, and classroom guidance, and they also complete practicum and internship experiences. The program is designed to help future school counselors support diverse students and close achievement gaps.
This 60-credit program prepares students for school counseling work in K-12 settings. It emphasizes comprehensive school counseling, student development, and the use of data to guide support. Courses include foundations of school counseling; group counseling; trauma and crisis intervention; psychosocial and multicultural aspects of counseling; literacy across the content areas; and school counseling program development and planning.
Other important courses include introduction to counseling theories and techniques; life span human development; college and career readiness for school counselors; and school, family, and community partnerships. Students also complete a practicum in counseling, two internships, and a specialist in education comprehensive exam. The program is built around counseling theory, school-based support, and hands-on training.
Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree with at least a 3.0 GPA from a regionally accredited institution or a comparable international degree. The GRE is waived for this program. Applicants must also submit official transcripts, a personal statement, three letters of recommendation, a resume or curriculum vitae, and unofficial transcripts. International students must also provide acceptable language proficiency test scores and a course-by-course credential evaluation if their degree is from a non-U.S. institution.
