New England College Online Master’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling

New England College is a private, nonprofit liberal arts college in Henniker, New Hampshire, United States. It offers an online master of science program in clinical mental health counseling (MS-CMHC).

It is delivered over a minimum of nine academic terms and includes a 700-hour clinical field experience. The MS in clinical mental health counseling is a rigorous 24-month, 60-credit degree program. Students take courses in counseling theories and techniques; diagnosis and the DSM; group counseling skills; ethical and professional standards; neurobiology and psychopharmacology; and addictions counseling. Key coursework also includes applied clinical skills; assessment measures and techniques; social and cultural foundations; research methods; and career and lifestyle development. Elective options include crisis and trauma counseling; dynamics of couples and family therapy; and human sexuality. Students also complete a practicum as well as 12 credits of internship.

Graduates are prepared to become professional counselors, helping clients manage issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, and relationship problems. Career paths include roles as mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, behavioral disorder counselors, and substance use counselors. Northeast-licensure states include New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont.

Admission requires a conferred bachelor’s degree with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must upload a personal statement of at least 300 words explaining their motivation and career goals, along with a resume, letter of recommendation, and transcripts. The program uses rolling admissions and offers several start dates each year. This program does not support F1 visas.
