Northwest University Online MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Northwest University offers an online master of arts in clinical mental health counseling. The program is built for students who want flexible online study with required clinical training and a Christian worldview. It includes three on-campus residency experiences, a multicultural focus, and cohort-based learning. Students also complete practicum and internship work as part of the degree.
The online MA in clinical mental health counseling is a 60-credit program that can be completed in 32 months. It prepares students to serve as licensed mental health counselors in Washington State. The program outcomes include professional counseling orientation and ethical practice, socio-cultural diversity and social justice, scientific foundations, counseling theories, skills, and helping relationships, group counseling and group work, diagnostic systems, assessment and testing, and research and program evaluation.
Courses include marriage and couple counseling; crisis counseling and abuse; psychopathology and diagnosis; multicultural issues in counseling; human growth and development; substance use counseling and interventions; and professional issues in counseling. The program includes practicum and internship experiences, and students are required to complete 10 hours of individual psychotherapy during the first year. A qualifying exam is also required.
Admission requires a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in the last earned degree. Applicants must submit an online application, a current resume or curriculum vitae, three references, a letter of interest, and participate in a group interview. GRE scores are not required. Transfer credits may be accepted up to six graduate credits with approval, and international students must meet the university’s international admission criteria.
