Pfeiffer University Online MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling

Pfeiffer University offers the master of arts in clinical mental health counseling. The program is designed for students who want to prepare for licensure and a career in mental health counseling.

The program is offered online with both synchronous and asynchronous instruction. Live classes are scheduled in the evenings, and students do not need to be on campus for weeks. It is a 63-credit program that can be completed in about 2.5 years and includes academic coursework and supervised fieldwork.

The curriculum includes courses such as clinical mental health counseling; multicultural counseling; advanced human growth and development; evaluation and appraisal in counseling; research and program evaluation; and related counseling training. Students also study topics such as counseling theories, diagnosis and intervention planning, crisis intervention strategies, group counseling, trauma-focused assessment, and family counseling.

The program is built to help students move toward licensure as Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselors (LCMHCs) and, in some states, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs). It also prepares students to take the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE), with study sessions offered before the test date.

Admission requires a free graduate application, an official transcript showing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75, transcripts for any previous graduate work, two references, a virtual interview, and a criminal background check. Students with a GPA below 2.75 may still be considered for conditional admission if they submit a letter explaining their academic record and readiness for graduate study.
