Spalding University Online Master’s in School Counseling
Spalding University offers the master of arts in school counseling for students who want to prepare for school counselor certification and a people-centered career. The program is designed for learners who want flexible online study, real-world field experience, and a path toward school counseling roles in Kentucky.
Designed to be completed in just 12 to 14 months, the program is built around both coursework and practice. Students complete 33 credits, more than 100 hours of clinical field experience, and two practicums during the degree.
The MA in school counseling prepares students to support children and adolescents in academic, emotional, and career development. Important courses include school counselor leadership and ethics; technology for school counselors; community resource and school collaboration; counseling theory and multicultural settings; and group counseling and crisis intervention. The program is also linked to preparation for Rank II or Rank I certification in Kentucky.
Admission to the program requires an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited school with a 2.75 GPA, two letters of recommendation, a current resume, a written essay, an interview, and submission of the program application and transcripts. The college also reviews professional dispositions through the application process, including critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration.
Spalding University is located in Louisville, Kentucky. It is a private Catholic university affiliated with the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and its College of Education is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). The MA in school counseling is approved by the Kentucky Educational Professional Standards Board (KYEPSB) for school counselor certification and rank change. The program is also accredited by the CAEP.
